Dear Filep and iDEALS, I invite you to take a deep breath and dive with me into the aquatic world imagined by Yiqing Yin for her aw1314 collection called 'les rives de Lunacy'.
From the epipelagic zone to abyssal depths, the 'little China girl' French couturière explores a fantastic world made of mermaids, jellyfish, octopuses and other fascinating yet disturbing sea creatures half way between '20.000 leagues under the sea' and the work of Russian sculptor Naum Gabo.
Yiqing Yin, poetic. In an ocean of textures (from liquid organza to flamboyant damask through gauze treated like plaster), lace is embroidered with organic patterns, chiffon seems to have been abraded by reefs, the iridescence of fabrics recalls marine medusoid coelenterates, colours evoke seabed, the reflects of the light in or on the water and the foam of the waves, coral adorns the chignons or grows around the bust & face of a mermaid bride in red. Yiqing Yin, spectacular.
