FilepMotwary: So what is this story about
ReneHabermacher: The project Metaphysica was realised with Mexican marketing boutique Trendsétera for their company book. The book is to be published in a limited edition and shot in Santorini, Greece. The tableaus are about communication and breaking the distance keeping us apart...
FM: How much time did this project take to put together?
RH: Like forever: Carlos Carillo, the owner and creative of Trendsétera had contacted me years ago, and when we finally met in México City it was clear we just had to work together. He was planning this project a long time ahead and geve me practically carte blanche. Developping the idea of metaphysica took a some months, with ideas and sketches back and forth- we finally ended up on the vulcano island of santorini last november. Carlos was more a day on the "road" from México DF, and when we finally arrived, a tempest was on the horizon, taking full blow during the shoot.
FM: Why it seems to me that you always choose Greece as the place for your expression?
RH: In this case we were looking for a place with metaphysical, abstract qualities. Santorini was inevitable with its dramatic setting and high altitudes on the caldera spectacularly overlooking the sea. The views and feel of this very particular place shift ones perception and emotions to an almost alchemist conciousness...
I know santorini well- and thought this is just the perfect place.
Greece and the Greek landscape animates me to distill that archaic quality that lies beneath the surface- that is what i am looking for to extract.
