the first edition of the Dutch Wool Week was officially launched with the opening of the exhibition '21 Wool Masters' in Amsterdam. 21 of the top(pest) fashion designers along with promising fashion alumni are showing unique woolen creations at Hotel Droog.
The Wool Week is an initiative of Campaign for wool. From November 5th to 11th, 2012 guests could find scattered throughout different locations in Amsterdam the unique properties of wool. With their surprising designs, the 21 Dutch 'Wool Masters', showed that wool is not only the sustainable natural product with a long history in fashion but also a product with a promising future.
The Campaign for Wool is a global community of sheep farmers, retailers, designers, manufacturers and you, the wool lover! Patron, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, unites the Campaign for Wool. The campaign aims to educate as many people as possible for the incredible benefits and versatility of the product in fashion, furniture, general design and its use in everyday life. This in turn, supports many small businesses and local farmers whose livelihoods depend on the wool industry. Every year The Campaign for holds ‘Wool Week’, a week-long celebration packed with stunts, events, artisan workshops and gorgeous wool fashion.
The 21 wool masters are: Winde Rienstra, Frans Molenaar, Jan Taminiau, Jan Jansen, Bas Kosters, Hyun Yeu/Ado les Scents, Hans Ubbink, youasme measyou, OntFront Alumni of the Dutch fashion academies and the Design Academy Eindhoven: Yvonne Kwok (AMFI), Chrissie Houtkooper (KABK), Raoul Amier (WdKA), Judith van Vliet (HKU), Brian Geradts (ABKM), Marjanne van Helvert (Gerrit Rietveld Academie), Noortje de Keijzer (DAE) and Peet Dullaert (ArtEZ).
