it was with a great pleasure that I received my invite for the press preview of Chanel's exhibition 'THE LITTLE BLACK JACKET' featuring photography by Karl Lagerferld in collaboration of Carine Roitfeld.
The exhibition is at the Saatchi Gallery, in London, opens tomorrow, and will go onwards until October 28th of October. It's part of a touring project which will take place in different world cities. For specific guidlines, please click here.
The Saatchi Gallery is the perfect frame to give the right modern allure to such an enormous project. The Little Black Jacket consists on plenty important personality portraits, wearing a revised Chanel jacket, each trying to give adifferent meaning to the traditional item, always depending on the wearer.
From Tilda Swinton - the face" of the exhibition, iced and classy - to Jane Birkin, even to Carine Rotfield herself-who in a way impersonates Coco Chanel- to Kanye West who adds a posh ghetto look, Mariacarla Boscono, passing by the beautiful Abu Kadhra sisters looking like freaky Siamese (my favorite one, indeed). The recognizable Anna Wintour back, the modern baroque of Daphne Guinness and the Mediterranean drama of Laetitia Casta are just some of the personalities of featured in the exhibition.
What else to say about Karl Lagerfeld? He's a kind of factotum nowadays, and there are few great occasions to appreciate his eye behind the camera..
Carine Roitfeld provides to give a super-classy touch to the whole work.
Thanks to Lucy from Chanel Press Office, and to my sweet Antonio Mingot for the pictures.
