Dear iDEALS,inspired by the expression Objet petit a (object small letter a) of the French philosopher Jacques Lacan, which refers to the unattainable object of desire, the exhibition is analyzing the relation of the artist with his own work of art. Could the work of art be for the artist an objet petit a? That stimulates, that causes desire and covers the lack which the subject experiences- in this case the artist- in himself and the Other.
If the process of art is a “mode of seduction”2, it is for the artist a mode of seduction of the self. Could seduction take various forms in objet petit a - which is always as absent as seduction is - through and within it, to seduce desire and to allow desire’s continuation? Thus to allow the artist to continue creating.
