There's something I wanted to let you in on. The finishing touches are now being put on an exhibition that will be as unforgettable as it is unprecedented once it opens in a few short weeks. Just when the global fashion week circuit begins to wind down and the art world gathers momentum in London for Frieze, 'DARE TO WEAR' will take a suitably irreverent and utterly refreshing look at these two creative universes -- through the lens of a curator/artist whose exuberant personal style is as eye-catching as her work.
Self-styled 'Wild Old Woman' Sue Kreitzman, who created 'WOW' and 'Flashier&Trashier' (portrait below), has mobilised a raucous band of 26 visionary artists. Many are self-taught iconoclasts, while others are more established names whose work sits in some of the world's most prestigious art institutions. Expect the unexpected as they explore adornment in its many guises. Through a variety of media, depictions of clothing and jewellery will sit alongside talismans, amulets, sculptures, paintings, assemblages, dolls, masks and installations. On display from the 9th of October at The Crypt Gallery of St Pancras Church on Euston Road, London, 'DARE TO WEAR' will continue on through The Bloomsbury Festival later that month until the 4th of November.
I have attached a PDF press kit including some rather arresting images, narratives and further details for your kind review. Not only does it serve as a teaser of some of the work that will be on show but it also provides an insightful preview into the artists' journeys so far. Sue Kreitzman can be contacted directly to arrange interviews at suekreitzman©yahoo.co.uk and I can be contacted for other matters on this address.
We hope to see you at 'DARE TO WEAR'.
Faithfully yours,
Robb Young
