Dear iDEALS, for the first time for Spring-Summer 2013, Maison Martin Margiela is presenting an
exclusive collection of optical eyewear:
‘POIDS PLUME’
The ‘POIDS PLUME’ collection is a return to the basics of eyewear designing. The four styles use effortless, weightless stainless steel and fine wire to rival the delicacy of a feather. The style comes from the simplicity. Stripped down to its bare essentials, what is left behind is indispensable. Fine and functional, the steel wire rims are designed to fit into a groove made with- in the prescription lenses, making them appear as though they are floating on one’s face, allowing the wearer to see without restriction. The high-sheen silver and the thoroughly polished copper gold offer understated elegance.
Also for Spring-Summer 2013, Maison Martin Margiela is introducing two new sunglasses concepts:
‘CLIP’ and ‘LAMEX’
‘CLIP’: A unique play on the combination of metal and acetate which defies the expected. Metal is shaped to act as an acetate frame whilst forming a base for 3-D acetate rims, providing the illusion of a separate “clipped-on” construction. This theme is presented in three democratic shapes in colour combinations that be- friend and contradict simultaneously. Polished dark tortoise shell and black acetate rims fuse with a silver matte effect, a copper gold metal or a gunmetal black.
‘LAMEX’: A duel between the classical and the traditional; a bold vision of design modification. By giving the illusion of two frames through layering, separate and conflicting frame shapes merge. Acetate is milled to create layers in black over crystal or teak impressions over black. The effect of laminated acetate further encourages the opposing shapes to segregate. Original shape is therefore maintained through the division of colour and layer. The MMM frame is engraved with the discretely iconic MMM steel stitch the signature of artisanal craftsmanship.
