Dear Filep and iDEALS,
enter the world of fashion with Arnhem Mode Biënnale.
Sometimes it is easier to appreciate the meaning of collections if the clothes are worn by models in a catwalk presentation. The garments by the designers selected for the SHAPE Show and Young SHAPE show are mutually reinforcing and leave the public with a narrative about form in clothing that moves. The designs of the SHAPE show are done by the Dutch label Orson + Bodil, the Indian designer Manish Arora and winners of the Hyères Festival 2009 Marite Mastina & Rolands Peterkops from the label ‘Maureunrol’s’ .
The designs of Mareunrol’s soon saw the duo stepping up into the national stage, taking part in national fashion events and competations. This led to designing costumes for the leading theatres in Riga, a feature film production and a music video, while also working as stylists for editorial fashion shoots and other projects.
Their latest collection is entitled ‘Private Detective’ and is heavenly influenced by the film noir genre, which also laid the foundations for their first short fashion film under the same title. Huge black wigs inspired on the Japanese tourists and coats, jackets, trousers with details of dealers, journalists, bank robbers and more. I spoke with the designers Marite Mastina and Rolands Peterkops after the fashionshow and asked them how it all went after winning the d’Hyres filmfestival 2009 and their new project.
“ Rolands Peterkorps: “Winning d’Hyères has been really great for us. We met a lot of interesting people that can hopefully bring us a step further. For now we’ve started a bit with a new collection but still we have to finish some small projects first with the collection ‘Private Detective’. We do one collection a year now”. I’m curious what this eccentric designer duo will come up in their next collection.
